The kind of sailing where one has a real chance of find buried treasure. It is so exciting to read the ads and plan my route for the morning on the weekend. As I pull up in front of yet another sale, my heart beats faster, and my breath quickens...one would think I was in love:-) My husband and I used to tease one another about having the fever as the day wore on. Here is one of my finds from a recent sailing expedition. The young man that sold it to me actually said that the green colored bowl was part of a chip and dip set. I didn't know what it was for sure, but had a feeling it was something good. I kept trying to figure out how it would work for chips and dip and where Was the dip part anyway? Also, the etching on the bowl seemed to be a little fancy for a chip dish.
Here's what it turned out to be: It's a vintage Fostoria compote bowl. Royal - Plate Etching #237 (1925-1934) (Amber, Blue, Green, Crystal) - This striking etching was introduced in 1925 in blue. Blue continued to be produced until 1928. Because Blue was made for such a short time it is hard to find and very desirable. Amber, Green, and Crystal were made from 1925 until 1934 and are popular but not quite as hard to find as blue.
